Abel arrives in Ishtvan, a city located between the Holy Sea in the West
and the Great Empire in the East. He immediately notices that there is
no one around, including the Sister who is supposed to pick him up. He
talks to Sister Kate, via a headpiece, and receives his mission - to
find the "Star".
Abel waits for the Sister in the train station. Then, the Marquis of Hungaria, Count Gyula Kadar, arrives. The police arrest Abel. The Marquis then tells them to bring him with them.
In Gyula's house, he warns Abel about the rules that he has. He says that eh despised the Vatican and the Priests. He adds that Abel's predecessor couldn't follow the rules and that is why she is gone. Their conversation is interrupted when a servant tells them that Sister Esther is here to pick Abel up. The sister takes Abel to the church.
In the Church, Abel is given food and eats it all. He notices that there are pictures on the wall. Esther tells him that it's her, when she was younger, with Bishop Laura. Abel quietly recognizes her as his predecessor.
In the Vatican, Cardinal Francesco informs the council that the leader of Ishtvan, Gyula, is a Vampire. He argues that they need to strike now so that a battle against the Vampires will be avoided. Lady Caterina agrees, but only after they re-asses the situation and make certain that Ishtvan is a threat.
Later that night, at the Church in Ishtvan, Abel is still hungry so he gets out of bed and heads down to the kitchen. He overhears Sister Esther talking to someone. He learned that Sister Esther killed someone. Abel reveals himself and asks her why. She tells him that it was to avenge Bishop Laura.
Esther's companion, Dietrich von Lohengrin, tells Abel to stay out of it and then runs for the door. Outside, soldiers of the military await, and as soon as the door is open, they open fire, killing Dietrich. Sister Esther gets mad and starts to grab Dietrich's gun, but Abel stops her. The soldiers arrest Esther. Abel asks them to arrest him too, and tells Esther that he is her friend. The soldiers then burn down the Church.
